Fly series by Melvin Sokolsky

Last week when I was researching the Bubble series by Melvin Sokolsky, I came across the 1965 Harper's Bazaar "Fly" Spring Collection. That Sokolsky is one talented fellow! I love the lines and gestures of these images. Of course the fashions and the Paris scenery are fantastic too!

The Bubble series by Melvin Sokolsky

This iconic "Bubble" series was created by fashion photographer Melvin Sokolsky for the Harper's Bazaar 1963 Spring Collection. The series, inspired by The Garden of Earthly Delights and Surrealism, depicts model Simone D'Aillencourt in large bubbles floating through the Paris cityscape. I love the glamorous, vintage fashions. Also, these innovative images were created before Photoshop! The plexiglass bubbles were hung from a crane in various locations throughout Paris. Truly remarkable, don't you think?!

Wonderland by Kirsty Mitchell

I am in awe of this immensely talented photographer, Kirsty Mitchell. Wonderland is a loving tribute to the memory of Mitchell's late mother who tragically died from a brain tumor. Mitchell channeled her grief to create this stunning body of work that is dedicated to the woman who "instilled in me the most precious gift a mother could, her imagination and a belief in beauty..."

Kirsty Mitchell utilized the beautiful English countryside as well as her many talents that include fashion design, costume making, and a knowledge of the arts and film. Elbie Van Eeden worked as the hair and make-up artist. The styling is really fantastic. At first I thought there was a large budget but when I read about the project afterwards, I learned that was not the case. Everything was made by hand or salvaged from donated items. Absolutely incredible.

I love Mitchell's use of nature and the changing seasons. Her imagery is haunting, soulful, still, and filled with beauty. Wonderland is a remarkable gift for a beloved mother and for all who have had the pleasure of seeing it. Kirsty Mitchell is truly inspiring.

Dress The Part

Moxy Creative House has a fantastic new poster series entitled Dress The Part. The series includes 10 movie posters that are "inspired by men's style." Very cool. I really love that each design reflects the mood of the film but also that it depicts different aspects of men's fashion. The Shining is the only poster that doesn't really say "men's style" but honestly I think it's a perfect illustration of the film. Totally creepy, right?! What are your favorites?
